Welcome to the Catholic Parish of Tavistock in West Devon and to the church of Our Lady of the Assumption and St Mary Magdalen. We are a vibrant community with parishioners of all ages participating in parish life. Many of the events are described and illustrated in the "Activities" section of this website.
Until the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, Mass attendance was about 100 parishioners; and more than 200 people attended the two Masses celebrating the Nativity of Our Lord on 24th and 25th December 2019. A joyous occasion.
From the beginning of July 2020 our church was open again for the celebration of Sunday Mass with guidelines to be followed. The average attendance for Sunday Mass, since the church reopened with reduced seating, has been approximately 60.
However, since the government announced 'all' restrictions will be lifted as of 19th July 2021, Mass is slowly returning to 'normal'. Details are given in the Parish Newsletter.
A joint Tavistock and Yelverton Parish BBQ was held on Sunday 15th August to celebrate Fr. Martin's 50th birthday, his 20th Anniversary in July and a reluctant "farewell" before he heads off to Newquay on his next adventures for the Diocese. A great occasion with some seventy parishioners from both Yelverton and Tavistock attending.
There will be much happening in September, when on the 5th we welcome our new Parish Priest Fr. Cyriacus and on the same day the Parish will be celebrating First Holy Communion.
The 'Ave Maria' is sung by Hannah Mayhew, and we wish to thank Hannah and Kevin Mayhew Publishers for permission to use this recording on our website.
Safe Spaces is a free and independent support service, providing a confidential, personal and safe space for anyone who has been abused by someone in the Church or as a result of their relationship with the Catholic Church of England and Wales.
